2013 National Jamboree PDF Print E-mail

Dear Scout Leaders:

First, let me introduce myself.  I am Jack Baker and have been asked to chair the Occoneechee Council 2013 National Jamboree Committee.

The 2013 National Boy Scout Jamboree is just around the corner and I want to make sure every scout knows about the Jamboree and how to attend. Due to new instructions, the Occoneechee Council is offering and encouraging local home troops to attend the Jamboree together as a troop in addition to signing up individual scouts.

Attending the Jamboree as a troop will be easier than you think.

1, The council will provide all your transportation to and from the Jamboree

2. National will provide all of your equipment including tent, cots, dining flies, cook equipment and so much more.

3. If you don't have 36 scouts to fill a Jamboree troop, that's ok - We will set you up with another troop with the same need or fill your troop with individual scouts from the council.

4. All you will be taking is a duffel bag (provided by National) and a day pack (provided by the council).  Everything else will be provided for you and your troop.

Currently the Occoneechee Council is sponsoring nine troops to attend the Jamboree in 2013.  We need to know how many home troops will be attending, before we begin to recruit contingent adult leaders for the scouts not coming with their home troop.

We are on a fast track right now, because in July of 2012, National has invited us to attend a Jamboree Shakedown at the Summit.  We want to send the four Jr. Leaders from each of the nine troops to experience the Jamboree and then return and report.  To do that we need to get everyone signed up before the end of March.

If you have individual scouts that want to attend with a council contingent troop, that is great too.  Please have them go to the following web site to sign up:

The Council also has a 2013 Jamboree web site with lots of information.

The 2013 National Jamboree will be the inaugural event of the Summit High Adventure Base. Please consider being a part of this historic event.

If you have questions, please email or call me.
